Mr. Morgan is the founder and Chairman of Morgan Property Group. With over thirty-seven years in the business, he has focused the efforts of Morgan Property Group on small and medium-sized office buildings, shopping centers, and freestanding retail projects. There is particular emphasis on repeat build-to-suit projects for national credit tenants, such as Publix, Walgreens, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Wendy’s, KFC, Bank of America, and 7-Eleven.
The Company provides a full range of development services, including site selection; architectural and civil engineering review; governmental applications and approvals; and construction supervision and tenant improvement coordination from ground up to opening. The Company also provides leasing and property management services for office building and shopping center properties. Morgan Property Group has offices in Charlotte, NC and Fort Lauderdale, FL. Development projects have been completed or are under construction throughout Florida, and the Mid-Atlantic states of Maryland, Washington D.C., North and South Carolina. Additional projects are pending in Georgia & Alabama.
Morgan Property Group is further engaged in investment real estate brokerage. Triple net leased, credit tenant properties from across the country, that meet an investor’s specific criteria, are identified, analyzed, and contracted for. In addition, the Company is able to identify both on and off the market assets for acquisition, and provide development and leasing services, if needed, to reposition outdated properties.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. Morgan graduated from Washington & Lee University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1971, after serving as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army for two years, including a tour of duty in Viet Nam. He is a licensed real estate broker in Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina. Mr. Morgan served as a governor appointee to the Board of Directors of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, and previously served for two years as Chairman of the Broward Workshop. He also serves on the Florida Governmental Affairs Committee of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He has been a member of the Board of Trustees for the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science and works with numerous local charities.
Trey Morgan

Mr. Morgan is responsible for operations, strategy and management of the company. As president, he has overseen the development of over $150 million dollars of commercial real estate, from single tenant retail projects to medical office developments to regional shopping centers. Mr. Morgan also leads a team of brokerage and management specialists accounting for transactions and assets throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast United States.
Before joining Morgan Property Group, Mr. Morgan worked at Jones Lang LaSalle, Inc. in Washington, D.C. in the Tenant Representation Group. He holds a B.S. from Northwestern University, where he graduated with honors, and an MBA from Duke University. Locally, Mr. Morgan is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), where he serves as Co-Chair of the Governmental Relations committee for the Carolinas, and he is a member of the Charlotte Region Commercial Board of REALTORS. In the community, Mr. Morgan is an executive board member of the Steve Smith Family Foundation, and attends St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
Jeff Surrency
Executive Vice-President of Development
Mr. Jeff Surrency is a partner of Morgan Property Group and oversees the acquisition of all development opportunities. Mr. Surrency has been involved in the assemblage, acquisition and completion of developments consisting of grocery anchored shopping centers, freestanding drug stores, residential and Office projects since 1979. Prior to Morgan Property Group, Mr. Surrency was a Senior Partner with the Barclay Group for over 18 years and worked as a consultant for the Trammell Crow Company. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a licensed real estate broker.
Scott Copeland
Vice President of Development
Florida Development Director
Mr. Copeland's main focus is site identification and acquisition for upcoming development projects in the Florida marketplace, primarily in south and central Florida. His other duties involve assisting in the due diligence phase and working closely with the Construction Department to resolve any permit issues (zoning, site planning, environmental, etc.). Mr. Copeland acts as a liaison to our Legal Counsel, and he is a licensed Real Estate Salesperson and Real Estate Broker.
Prior to joining Morgan Property Group, Mr. Copeland was a Site Selector for Domino's Pizza. He has also worked with the Terranova Corporation for eight years, and since then has worked for RAM Commercial Group. In 2002, Mr. Copeland formed On Course Development, LLC, which among other duties, acts as an additional brokerage arm to Morgan Property Group.
Mr. Copeland is a graduate of Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In his personal time, he serves on the Board of Directors at LaGorce Country Club in Miami Beach, Florida, where he also is a Founding Member.
Derek H. Hoselton, Esq.
In-House Counsel, Staff Attorney
As the In-House Counsel Staff Attorney, Mr. Hoselton oversees the legal matters for Morgan Property Group, including compliance with state and federal law, litigation support, and contract negotiations. Mr. Hoselton also coordinates the many property and loan closings for the Company.
Before joining the team at Morgan Property Group, Mr. Hoselton was a consultant for Gemini Real Estate Advisors, LLC in Huntersville, North Carolina. In this position he assisted the Associate General Counsel and Vice President in legal matters relating to commercial real estate acquisition, as well as landlord/tenant issues.
Mr. Hoselton is an alumnus of the University of Tennessee, with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, as well as an alumnus of the Charlotte School of Law, with a Juris Doctor degree. He is a member of the Mecklenburg County Bar Association, as well as the North Carolina Bar, and is licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina.
Scott Friedman

Mr. Scott Friedman’s primary role is Project Director for development projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Florida. His responsibilities include vendor coordination and timeline management with specific focus on the governmental approval process. His involvement ensures projects are moving towards construction in a timely fashion.
In addition, Mr. Friedman oversees our Property Management department, which services properties in Florida, Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. He brings over 10 years of property management experience and over 20 years of general real estate experience to Morgan Property Group.
Mr. Friedman graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree from University of Florida in Business Finance. He is a licensed sales associate in Florida.
John Wilson
Development Associate
Mr. John Wilson joined Morgan Property Group in 2012 focusing his efforts on brokerage and site selection, as well as assisting with all aspects of the development process for new projects. Mr. Wilson began his career in real estate at John Bosworth and Associates, LLC providing commercial appraisals for major lenders and property owners throughout North Carolina.
Mr. Wilson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Corporate Communications from Queens University of Charlotte. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the Charlotte Region Commercial Board of REALTORS (CRCBR) and is a licensed broker in North Carolina.
